UC Berkeley: Bridges Multicultural Center - Virtual Transfer Empowerment Day

UC Berkeley: Bridges Multicultural Center - Virtual Transfer Empowerment Day

    April 8

The bridges Multicultural Resource Center at UC Berkeley is inviting community college students to participate in our annual Transfer Empowerment Day (TED) on Friday, April 8th, 2022 via Zoom from 9:00 am - 2:00pm.

What is bridges Multicultural Resource Center?

The bridges Multicultural Resource Center was established when five student-run and student-initiated organizations came together to form a collective to meet the needs of underrepresented students of color after the passing of Proposition 209 in 1996. We strive to recruit underrepresented students of color into higher education at all levels, and are committed to providing resources to retain these students. To learn more about our organization, please see our website here, bridges. You will see that the organization is student run, student initiated, and student-funded; and I have the pleasure of advising them through their work. You can learn more through their "we are bridges" video HERE.

    What is Transfer Empowerment Day?

Transfer Empowerment Day is a one day, online conference that aims to demystify, liberate, and empower current community college students in their journey to higher education. The goal for TED is to reach out to all community colleges and support students in making the transition to a four year college more comprehensive and attainable. At our program we will have a:

    • BIPOC Transfer Student Panel
    • PIQ Support Workshop
    • FAFSA/Financial Aid Workshop

Additionally, we want to build a connection by informing students about the bridges Coalition and if interested, about all seven Recruitment & Retention centers:

    • BRRC: Black Recruitment and Retention Center
    • INC: Indigenous Native Coalition
    • MENARRC: Middle Eastern-Northern African Retention and Recruitment Center
    • MRRC: Mixed Retention and Recruitment Center
    • PASS: Pilipinx Academic Student Services
    • RAICES: Latinx Resource and Retention Center
    • REACH!: Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment and Retention Center

We hope to support low-income, first-generation, underrepresented students of color by providing ourselves as a resource. Through multicultural collaboration as a coalition wide conference, TED seeks to empower underrepresented students of color to pursue opportunities for post-secondary education, increase exposure to college resources, and support with their upcoming UC Application.
